Annual Training Requirements

Alabama child care providers must complete required training hours based on their role to stay in compliance with the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR), Child Care Services Division.

  • Teachers and Caregivers:
    • 12 clock hours within the first 30 days of employment, then ongoing annual training thereafter
  • Service Staff:
    • At least 4 clock hours each year
  • Center Directors:
    • 24 hours annually — at least 20 in administration / management + 4 in quality child care

Alabama DHR requires that ongoing annual training cover the following six areas — and all Bridging Child Development courses align to one or more of them:

  • Child Development

  • Positive discipline and guidance

  • Quality child care and licensing
