Florida DCF Annual Training Requirements

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) requires child care personnel to complete a minimum of 10 hours (or 1.0 CEU) of in-service training each year, after initial training requirements are complete. This applies to staff in licensed child care facilities, family child care homes, and large family child care homes.

In-Service Topic Areas

Florida in-service training covers required topic areas such as:

  • Child Growth and Development

  • Special Needs

  • Behavioral Observation & Screening

  • Developmentally Appropriate Practices

  • Professionalism

  • Health, Safety & Nutrition

Florida's state-mandated initial trainings (such as the 45-hour Introductory Child Care Training and the DCF orientation) must be completed through the DCF Child Care Training System — our courses support your ongoing in-service hours after those are done, not in place of them.

My Training Year

Florida's training year does not run the calendar year. Annual training hours must be completed within the window below to count toward DCF compliance. - Child care centers/facilities: The state fiscal year, July 1 – June 30

- Family & large family child care homes: The operator's own 12-month licensing period
