Everything You Need To Know:

Annual Training Requirements

South Carolina child care providers must complete annual training hours based on role and program type to stay in compliance with SC DSS Child Care Licensing:
Role: Teachers & Educators (direct care staff) | Annual Training: 15 hours, from at least 3 approved topic areas

Role: Center Directors | Annual Training: 20 hours (the 15 plus 5 hours of Program Administration)

Role: Family Child Care Home operators, staff & household members | Annual Training: 10 hours

Plus we report your hours to the SC endeavors registry so your transcript stays current without extra paperwork!

South Carolina DSS Topic Areas

Your hours must come from at least 3 of these SC DSS topic areas:

  • Child Growth and Development

  • Special Needs

  • Child Guidance

  • Curriculum Activities

  • Nutrition

  • Health & Safety

  • Professional Development

  • Program Administration

ABC Quality

Your training hours support your program's standing in ABC Quality, South Carolina's Quality Rating and Improvement System — which recognizes and rewards quality in licensed early care and education programs. A few specifics worth knowing:
- You can carry over up to 5 excess hours to the following year (in the category earned)

- A course can't be repeated for credit within 5 years

- CPR and First Aid do not count toward your topic-area hours

- Training is tracked on a calendar-year basis (January 1 – December 31)
