North Carolina Child Care Training Requirements

Everything You Need To Know:

Annual On-Going Training Hours (by Education & Experience)

After the first year of employment, North Carolina child care staff must complete annual on-going training (clock hours), with the number based on education and experience:
Education and Experience: Four-year degree or higher in a child care related field | Annual Clock Hours: 5
Education and Experience: Two-year degree in a child care related field or NC Early Childhood Administration Credential | Annual Clock Hours: 8
Education and Experience: Certificate or diploma in a child care related field, or NC Early Childhood Credential | Annual Clock Hours: 10
Education and Experience: 10 years of documented experience in a licensed child care setting | Annual Clock Hours: 15
Education and Experience: None of the above | Annual Clock Hours: 20

North Carolina DCDEE Topic Areas

All Bridging Child Development trainings address one or more of North Carolina's required on-going training topic areas:

Additional Training Hour Information

1. Staff working under 40 hours/week may prorate their hours

2. CPR and First Aid do not count toward your on-going training hours. CEUs, college coursework, and clock hours all count

3. Completed hours are recorded directly to the state, so your transcript stays current without extra paperwork
