Annual Training Requirements

In Maine, training-hour requirements vary by program size and hours worked. Providers must complete annual professional development to remain in compliance.
Program Size: Under 13 children | Staff working 20+ hrs/week: 12 hours annually | Staff working under 20 hrs/week: 12 hours annually
Program Size: 13+ children | Staff working 20+ hrs/week: 30 hours annually | Staff working under 20 hrs/week: 18 hours annually

These requirements apply to child care centers, nursery schools, and family child care programs.

MRTQ Core Knowledge Training Areas For Career Lattice advancement

Of your total hours requires, 6 hours of training must be in any of the following areas:

  • Healthy, safe environments

  • Guidance

  • Child development

  • Relationships with families

  • Individual and cultural diversity

  • Children with special needs

  • Business

  • Professional development

  • Observation and assessment

  • Developmentally appropriate practice

  • Child care practices

Maine Roads to Quality (MRTQ) & the Career Lattice

Maine child care providers must register with Maine Roads to Quality (MRTQ), the state's professional development system, which tracks completed hours and supports career advancement. 

  • All Bridging Child Development courses are accepted toward Maine training requirements as defined by DHHS licensing guidelines
  • Our courses align with MRTQ Core Knowledge Training areas and count toward your Career Lattice advancement

Maine CDA Training

Our courses can also be used toward earning or renewing your Maine CDA training requirements.
